Welcome - to something new
Live, online, interactive, group psycho‑education — delivered warmly and creatively, with clinically informed precision and insight, by an experienced consultant psychiatrist.
We are glad that you have joined us.
How might we help?
If you have found yourself wandering through the ‘therapy maze’, navigating self‑help labyrinths, or quietly searching for something that might help — our approach might be of interest to you.
We believe that meaningful, high‑quality psycho‑education should be concise, yet comprehensive, easily identifiable and accessible.
You may be asking yourself if we truly have something different to offer. That is of course, entirely for you to decide.
Feel free to explore the information below, and don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions.
What is Psycho-Education Demystified?
We provide a bespoke psycho-educational model that uses a grounded, practical, and interactive approach — distilling classical psychological concepts and theories into something precise and understandable.
In simpler terms, this means that we summarise a broad range of relevant topics - such as developmental theory, cognitive psychology and psychoanalytic concepts - and turn them into easy to understand modules, with a focus on how experiences in childhood and later in life, may impact on our psychological health in the here and now.
The focus is on developing meaningful insight into yourself: how you think, how you feel, and how you relate to others, within the context of your own life experiences, both past and present.
Our approach is an informative, balanced mixture of informal presentation, with frequent planned interaction - including pauses for reflection, and question and discussion - to enhance learning and understanding.
We hope that this novel style of psycho-education offers added value by its combined use of creative scenarios, modern metaphors and original models designed for clarity, mixed with a strong focus on interaction.
Who Might Find this Useful?
Our psycho-education based approach may be useful for adults who recognise that they experience repeated patterns of thinking, feeling or interacting which causes distress, frustration or concern in their day to day lives.
For example, you may have noticed issues with anxiety, self‑doubt, low self-esteem or relationship difficulties .
You may already have explored various self-help approaches, psychological therapies or complementary therapies - but still feel that something is troubling you.
If you are interested in understanding the origins and context of your psychological and emotional problems at a deeper level, psycho-education may be a good starting point, or a useful complement to other approaches, such as therapy.
What Will a Session Include?
This is first and foremost an education session, delivered with humane warmth and clarity. We provide the professional insight and you provide the curiosity, interaction and insight from lived experience.
Each session will relate to a specific module, and:
be for a duration of two hours
be live and online
have a group size of 10-20 participants (to keep the experience positive for everybody)
be structured and centred around a bespoke presentation
be informal, inclusive, and interactive — with planned question and discussion sessions
be approximately 60% presentation and 40% interaction (with planned question and discussion sessions after each part within the module)
be facilitated by an NHS consultant psychiatrist with over 30 years of clinical and teaching experience
The focus is on:
learning
understanding
insight
What it isn’t:
This isn’t therapy
This isn’t coaching
This isn’t personalised. We focus on themes and concepts, because they are universal and apply to us all.
About Us
This venture isn’t about us
We keep a low profile by design
No social media
No personal biography
No staged monochrome portraits with thoughtful poses beside a cat and a curated bookshelf. This is not performative professionalism. We’re here to try and do something useful
Psycho‑Education Demystified consists of an NHS consultant psychiatrist with over 30 years of clinical and teaching experience, working with a co‑creator who helps shape the ideas, structure, and delivery behind the scenes. We do all the work - preparing, delivering and facilitating the online group sessions, and managing all the admin. We are a small team of two - and that’s all we need. Should you choose to get in touch, a real human will respond.
The idea for this innovative venture formed more than a decade ago. Some spare time has enabled it to take shape. Just preparing the first Module and making this website has been an achievement. If Psycho-Education Demystified goes no further, we have done what we initially set out to do - which was to offer a novel approach for people seeking something different.
The Modules:
Each module is a bespoke and carefully crafted presentation, based on grounded psychological principles which have been transformed into creative scenarios, metaphors and novel models.
There is currently one module available (The Developmental Mind Gap Map) but the aim is to develop three modules in total which will combine to form an exploration of: how we become who we are; how we relate to others, and how we find change (sometimes we find change, and sometimes change finds us).
Module 1 - now available
The Developmental Mind Gap Map
Not easy to say - but simple to understand
A clear, step‑by‑step journey exploring how our psychological, emotional, and personality development takes shape in childhood - and how some early life experiences may generate unhelpful patterns which persist into our adult lives.
You will encounter original models such as:
The Gap
The Secret Court of The Soul
The Psychological Switchboard…and more.
